Sure this summer's H.O.R.D.E. tour boasts turns by Smashing Pumpkins and Grammy winner Paula Cole, but it was the presence of Blues Traveler frontman and tour founder John Popper that lured Fastball and their immediately infectious bosa nova ditty "The Way" to the bill.
"John, if you're watching, would you listen to our record and come out and play with us?" Fastball guitarist/vocalist Miles Zuniga told MTV News this week of the band's wishes for their H.O.R.D.E. outing this summer. "That would just be so dope... to have John Popper from Blues Traveler play with us. But I like everybody on the bill. The time we're going to be on anyways is going to be tremendous. So it'll be great. I'm excited about it."
The band, who are currently topping the "Billboard" modern rock chart with "The Way," had other reasons for joining the bill as well.
"I'm excited because I think it's a real music thing," bassist/vocalist Tony Scalzo said. "People who attend the H.O.R.D.E. thing I think tend to be into the music aspect most of all".
"And stay all day, you know what I mean," Zuniga added.
"They're dying to see the bands too. They're there to see the bands," Scalzo said. However, the band still hopes to share the stage with Popper and other members of this summer's H.O.R.D.E. line-up.
"Hopefully there'll be some cross-pollination with the other bands. We'll see," Zuniga said.
He didn't have to wait long, as the band soon learned that they were booked on Wednesday's edition of "MTV Live," the same day that Popper was scheduled to appear. After Popper discussed this summer's tour with MTV News' Kurt Loder, he joined Fastball for the first of what could be many jams yet to come this summer.
